Zakaah receipts and tax filing

Fatwaa ID: 621

Question:
Assalamualaikum,

Are we allowed to submit tax receipts for tax purposes if we were to receive them for zakat payments that we made to an organization?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

When filing for taxes, you should deduct and submit zakaah and sadaqah receipts. These are genuine charitable donations. Doing this will not affect the validity nor the rewards of your charity in any way. The refunds you may get are not from your donations.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
