Zakah on salary yet to receive

Fatwaa ID: 833

Question:

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
I did some work for a customer.
Customer will pay total amount in installments.

Do i give zakat on only what has been currently PAID?
Or
Do i give zakat on what he is DUE to pay me as well?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

In principle, salary or wage that you have not yet received is not subject to zakaah. Thus, in the enquired situation, you will pay zakaah only on what you have been received. You will not pay zakaah on the outstanding amount.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best.
